Google Mobile Algorithm Update April 2015

What is this Google mobile-friendly algorithm update?

Google will be changing the way results appear on mobile search. The new ranking system will be based on websites that are deemed mobile-friendly by Google. This isย  due to the fact that more than 60% of traffic now, comes from mobile devices! That statistic alone should make website owners sit up and take note!

At the moment this algorithm update will only effect mobile search results.

If your website is not mobile ready, it really does need to be updated, this is going to be a MASSIVE shock to millions of website owners because if their website is deemed mobile unfreindly, their rankins WILL drop.

Don’t panic, to check if your website is mobile freindly, follow the steps below.

1. Visit https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/

2. Paste in your url

3. Give the big G a minute and you’ll have your answer.

Make sure you have a quality website first! Relevant to your ads and with great landing pages.ย  Google use a feature called ‘Quality Score‘ and this refers to the quality of your ads, keywords and landing page. Higher quality ads can lead to lower prices and better ad positions. So you are after a high quality score.

Have a goal in mind. This may be getting someone to call, leave their details (Squeeze) or make a purchase.

Writing a great ad is an art form all in itself. Your ads should stand out and grab the searchers interest. Make sure the keywords you use in your ads, match the keywords on your landing pages.

Over deliver! When someone clicks on your ad and lands on your page, you have an extremely targeted potential customer, but they do not know who you are. You have a few seconds to gain their trust. This is where we go back to having a great landing page. You can offer something for free, download this free pdf that shows small business owners how to get the Inland Revenue to pay you, instead of you paying them! ๐Ÿ™‚ (I wish). Seriously, maybe a free tax saving tips video for small business owners, where they will get to see and listen to you, which is EXTREMELY important as you can start to build trust.

Never confuse your website visitor! If your ad says Free Tax Saving Tips make sure that’s exactly what they get. Put yourself in the searchers mind, what would they want to find once they click your ad.

There are three types of keyword targeting,
1. Exact match = Contains only these words in this order.
2. Phrase match = Contains all the words, in order, and may include other words before or after the main keyword.
3. Broad match = Contains all the words in the main keyword, can be in any order, and may include other words.

Use negative keywords.
Negative keywords prevent your PPC ads from displaying for particular keyword phrases. Adding in negative keywords is an important part of the PPC process. It allows you to eliminate irrelevant search queries. For example, if you have nothing for free, ‘FREE’ would be a great negative keyword to add.

Don’t forget you mobile users! Mobile is huge and getting BIGGER. First make sure your landing page is responsive, which means it adjusts and looks great on any device, laptop, pc, tablet or mobile phone.

Continually Test and tweak. From search keywords, Ad headlines, Ad description, to content on the landing page. Easiest way to start, is to create two ads for each keyword, then track the performance of each ad. When you have a clear winner, this will become your ‘control’, you then create another ad and repeat the process.

You must track your conversions. You want to know what keywords, ads and landing pages convert the best.

Use Google’s remarketing feature, this is literally where you can follow your website visitor around the internet, showing the same ad, or even better, creating other ads that grab your visitors attention, eg, giving a larger discount on the second ad, or giving something of value away for free.

There is so much competition online, it doesn’t matter what business or niche you are in, there are hundreds and thousands of competitors, all chasing YOUR potential customers!

So how do you get the people in your market, to come to you and not one of your competitors?

It’s quite straight forward really PROVIDE VALUE for your market place and then promote the heck out of the quality content that you produce.

For instance, produce a really good video, including calls to action within the video. Then upload to youtube, embedd on Facebook, embedd on your website, where you will have an ethical bribe for visitors to access even more quality content. You can then take that video and turn it into an audio file, a pdf and an article on your website.

With internet marketing today, quality is the name of the game!

A few years ago when Google was in it’s early years, it was easy to manipulate, you could own all the listings on several search engine results pages for a single keyword, Ahhhhhhhhhhh the good ole days ๐Ÿ™‚

But now………………Google is very smart and the old saying is now becoming a reality online, ‘The Cream Always Rises To the Top’

There are still internet marketers who are trying to game the search engines, there always will be, but they are a dying breed. If anyone tells you they have found a loop hole, a sneaky way to beat the engines, grab your laptop and run!!!!

Put yourself in your potential customers shoes, what would they want to find on your website, what could you give them that would make their lives better, and yes, give them it for free! Because today, you need to engage and build trust with your potential customers.

Google Hummingbird Update You Need To Understand Semantic Search

Google have had a complete algorithm rewrite, Uh Oh, the Hummingbird has landed, or taken off!google hummingbird update

Hummingbird is Google’s largest search algorithm update since 2001.

It’s all happening along side Penguin 2.1, effecting about 1% of search queries (which is uite major), Penguin 2.1 was rolled out on 4th October 2013 (sorry, nearly got side tracked, we are talking hummingbirds not penguins!).

Hummingbird is a complete replacement. Googleโ€™s search chief Amit Singhal, said it was ‘the first time since 2001 aย  Google algorithm has been so dramatically rewritten’.

Hummingbird is paying more attention to the whole search query, rather than each individual word in a query. Google are continually trying to provide best results for searchers. Hummingbird makes sure that results are more targeted to what is exactly in the searchers mind when they type in their search query.

The aim of Hummingbird, is to have pages matching the meaning of the search query do better, rather than pages that just match one or a few words of the query. Website owners must get used to semantic search, which is basically understanding searchers intent.

No one but Google really know, but you cannot go wrong, if you have a well structured website, that’s mobile friendly and fast to load. Then produce quality, detailed content for your website, that enriches peoples lives.

Then reproduce the quality content in different formats (video,PDF,press release,etc) and syndicate onto the social platforms, interact with potential clients and customers and give them more enriching content. They will then know, like and trust you.

Google’s Penguin 2.0 Looking At Bad And Unnatural Inbound Linking

Websites are getting hit hard and fast by Googleโ€™s Penguin 2.0 update. google penguin 2.0

Penguin 2.0 is all about inbound links and their credibilty and acquisition!

Link velocity is a term applied to tha speed at which a website aquires inbound links. If the site is getting a few backlinks here and there, then suddenly lands 5000 backlinks in a few days, Google’s flags are raised.

Mass blog commenting, automated link exchanges, fake profiles, irrelevant websites, low quality websites and article directories, link farms, overly optimized anchor text backlinks (keyword exact match), etc, etc. We could go on all day ๐Ÿ™

Now we all know that a really good piece of viral marketing could, in all probability, cause such a leap in the numbers of backlinks being aquired, so I do believe that the big G will also look at the quality and type of website that is linking. At this moment in time I am just not to sure how they deal with a really good piece of viral marketing, maybe someone reading this has an idea, if so, please let us know ๐Ÿ™‚

Please don’t think backlinks are dead, I still believe that backlinks are very important, along with social interactions that happen around your content, so Facebook, Youtube, pinterest, bookmarking, etc, all play a big part in the ranking of a website.

Wow! What an incredible creation the internet is, It has opened up the whole world for business!

Whether you are a global business or a local brick and mortar business, keeping up with the latest internet marketing changes is imperative. Whether you like it or not, the internet is here to stay and is only going to get BIGGER!

Social media marketing was all the rage in 2012 and you should have a facebook page, twitter account, youtube channel and pinterest board (depending on your business) at the least.

2013 is heavily focusing on mobile. Is your website mobile friendly, how does it look on a smart phone? More and more people are using mobile for search and they want fast answers. When people search on desktop computers they have a little more time, maybe 5 to 8 seconds before they will click off to somewhere else, on mobile it’s a lot less, so you had better give people the information they are looking for. For example, if you have a restaurant, they will want to know location, contact phone number, menu and prices, that’s all.

If you have your own business you need to get up with the internet latest, or get left behind!
